One man was in custody and another was being sought Monday night following a bank robbery earlier in the day in Holts Summit.

Holts Summit Police Chief Kyle McIntyre said the suspect, who is believed to have robbed the Mid America Bank at the corner of Karen and Center Streets, was taken into custody around 5 p.m. in Jefferson City.

"After the robbery occurred, we sent out a surveillance photo of the suspect and a Jefferson City police officer recognized him," he said. "With officers from our department, Jefferson City and the FBI, we found the suspect at a residence on Edmonds Street and took him into custody."

McIntyre could not release the name of the suspect until formal charges were filed Tuesday by the Callaway County Prosecutor's Office.

McIntyre did say the suspect is known to frequent the Holts Summit and Jefferson City areas.

McIntyre said they got the call about the robbery around 9:52 a.m.

"The suspect came into the bank, showed a note and flashed a handgun, but before the teller could give him any money, the suspect ran out and got away with nothing," he said.

The second suspect authorities are looking for apparently drove the vehicle used in the robbery.

"Our suspect is not talking about the driver, so we have no description or idea where he might have come from," McIntyre said.

No one was hurt in the incident.

McIntyre said this was the first bank robbery in Holts Summit since 1995 when Central Bank was robbed. The robber eventually was caught in that case.
