Local barber discovers he's featured in national travelogue


Larry Horstdaniel goes to work on Mark Stokes, a local resident who has been a customer since he was a boy. The longtime barber who shies from publicity recently was surprised to see him and his shop profiled in a new travel book, "Long Road Home."

Larry the barber has always shied away from publicity, even declining media interviews. So the longtime downtown hair-cutter was amazed when he recently opened a new book and discovered that he's featured prominently inside.

Larry's Barber Shop, located a couple doors down from Madison's Cafe, is featured in 21/2 pages of "Long Way Home: On the Trail of Steinbeck's America," a new book by Bill Barich, an author of eight books and former writer for the New Yorker.
