Reward offered in Fulton arson cases

Information about a December fire that did $5.1 million in damages to Sutherland's Lumber Center in Fulton could net up to $10,000 in a reward from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

State Fire Marshal Randy Cole is looking for help from the public on solving the arson case.

"Arson is a serious crime that endangers the public and the firefighters who must respond and fight these fires," said Cole. "I urge anyone with information to come forward and help make a difference in these cases."

Authorities were called at 5:15 a.m. Dec. 14 to respond to a fire at Fulton High School. Fire officials quickly extinguished the high school fire and determined it was arson.

While they were examining the high school, another fire call was received at 5:51 a.m. at Sutherland's on South Business 54. Investigators then determined both fires were intentionally set.

The reward, up to $10,000, is for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for both fires. The public is asked to call ATF's toll free hotline, 1-888-283-3437; the Missouri Division of Fire Safety Arson Hotline, 1-800-39-ARSON; or the Jefferson City ATF office, 573-893-7788. The hotline numbers are answered 24 hours a day, and all calls remain confidential.
