ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Federal officials estimate it will take a year to complete a full inquiry into a St. Louis area helicopter crash that killed a Missouri State Highway Patrol sergeant.
Mitchell Gallo, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board, said a preliminary report on the crash that killed Sgt. Joe Schuengel, of south St. Louis County, would be done in about a week. But he said a full report would take about a year.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the full report will include the cause of the crash. Gallo made his comments at a news conference Saturday.
The Highway Patrol helicopter Schuengel was piloting crashed on a side street in a Clarkson Valley subdivision Friday. Schuengel was alone in the helicopter when it crashed.
