Teachers recognized for service

The 2010 Catholic School Teacher Institute and Secretary conference was held Monday at St. Joseph Cathedral Parish and School.

The keynote speaker was Bob Smith, a member of the Order of Friars Minor-Capuchin since 1979.

Teachers hitting milestone years of service were recognized including: Sister Esther Becker at St. Peter Interparish School, 35 years; Joyce Cregger at St. Peter, Betty Fast at Immaculate Conception School, Judy Heinrich at St. Peter and Rose Thoenen at St. Peter, all for 30 years; Jo Ann Scheidt, Helias Catholic High School, 25 years; and Bruce Connor at Immaculate Conception, 20 years.

After celebrating Mass, teachers attended workshops with topics such as “Legal Lessons,” “Sports as Ministry,” “Getting a Grip on Kids Today” and “Using Technology.” Several exhibitors offered tools and information.
