Appeal filed in murder case against KC attorney

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Jackson County prosecutors are appealing a judge's decision to toss all evidence in a decade-old murder case in which a former Kansas City attorney is accused of beating his law partner to death.

The Kansas City Star reported that prosecutors are asking the Missouri Court of Appeals to prohibit the exclusion order from being enforced in the case against Richard Buchli.

In filing the ruling last month, visiting Nodaway County Judge Roger Prokes said prosecutors had failed to provide Buchli's attorneys with key information and evidence.

Buchli was found guilty in 2002 of first-degree murder in the May 2000 beating death of 49-year-old Richard Armitage at their downtown law office. But the conviction was thrown out in 2006 because of evidence not turned over to the defense.
