Missouri AG launches effort promoting Internet safety

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has turned himself into a cartoon character to promote Internet safety to children.

Koster's state website now includes a cartoon depiction of himself on a surfboard, about to be attacked by a giant shark. It directs viewers to a web page offering tips about Internet safety to parents, educators, young children and teenagers.

For example, children are encouraged never to reveal their name, phone number, school or home address over the Internet. Teens are given tips to spot when a friend might face online danger -- like has he stopped hanging out after school, or has she started getting gifts through the mail?

October is Internet Safety Month in Missouri. Koster's website is www.ago.mo.gov.
