Shootings at lake home leave 1 dead, 1 injured

SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. - Investigators from several agencies are trying to solve a weekend shooting that left a woman dead and a man badly wounded at Mid-Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks.

When officers arrived at 647 Sunrise Acres Point in rural Camden County, they found Sharon L. Dickson, 59, of Sunrise Beach, dead of multiple gunshot wounds, and William B. Vannote, 67, also of Sunrise Beach, alive but in critical condition, also the victim of several gunshot wounds.

Detectives are saying little except that they don't believe the shootings were random. Vannote was in critical condition Monday at an undisclosed hospital.

A Sunrise Beach neighbor says he talked to the couple earlier Saturday and everything seemed fine. The neighbor says Dickson was laughing while Vannote was chasing a dog.

The victims lived there about six months of the year.

The Lake of the Ozarks Major Case Squad has been activated in the investigation.
