Probation revoked for Versailles man in fatal accident

Cole County Circuit Judge Jon Beetem last week revoked the probation of a Versailles man who had pled guilty to leaving the scene of a 2005 fatal accident involving a pedestrian near Russellville High School.

Willard Cannaday, 33, was sentenced to four years in prison for violating conditions of his probation.

Special Judge Frank Conley in July 2006 originally sentenced Cannady to four years in prison, but suspended the execution of that sentence and ordered probation, based on an agreement with then-Prosecutor Bill Tackett's office.

Larry W. Campbell, 50, was walking west in the westbound lane of Route C, on the night of April 4, 2005, when he was hit and killed by a westbound tractor trailer truck.

Campbell's body was found the next morning, lying near a tree and the creek on the north side of the highway, at the edge of the Russellville High School property.
