Cole County surtax issue appears headed to court

Blair Oaks seeks two revisions to repayment plan

With the deadline for all agreements between Cole County and the different taxing entities due at 5 p.m. today, litigation appears to be likely for at least three of the parties involved in a surtax dispute.

Cole County Collector Larry Vincent confirmed that, as of Monday, the Blair Oaks School District is the only taxing entity of the 13 involved in the surtax ordeal to have not signed an agreement, confirming the district's repayment plan.

Vincent said the county has received a letter from Jefferson City that if an agreement is not reached by the 5 p.m. deadline between the county and Blair Oaks, it will file a lawsuit against the county to collect the funds.

The city council has scheduled a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the issue.
