The Jefferson City Council is reviewing city regulations on taxicabs and other car services.

Jefferson City Council members will have an opportunity Dec. 6 to vote on a bill that would significantly reorganize the ordinance regulating vehicles for hire in the city.

Current ordinance doesn't distinguish between a taxicab service and other car services -- differences which stem from the kind of vehicles that are used, the rate used, and the scheduling of the service.

Also at issue is whether the city should continue its requirement for these services to be granted a "certificate of need" to become licensed.

What a crock of buracracy!

The city has so many laws and restrictions on businesses they can't even figure out how to restrict these businesses. Either that, or they are so stuck from trying to run out the tatoo parlours they can't think straight. This Council, Mayor, City Administrator, and City Attorney couldn't distinguish their rears from a hole in the ground.

The job of city government is not to micro-manage every small businessman who wants to set up shop here. Let them alone and let them do their business. The free market will sort things out.

why is it that Jefferson city is more interested in keeping out new business than trying to attract it? Several years ago they voted in a special law to keep new cab service from coming into town. What business does any city have in limiting choice in services for its tax payers? Just another example of this town being stuck in the past
