Mom of student killed by bus sues driver, company

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — The mother of a St. Joseph teenager who died when he was hit by a school bus is suing the bus driver and the bus company.

Bridgett Blasi, mother of 16-year-old Mason Adams, on Wednesday filed a civil lawsuit against 23-year-old Tracey J. Jones and First Student, the bus company.

Jones was driving when Mason was hit in a crosswalk on Nov. 15. She has been charged with misdemeanor careless and imprudent driving.

The lawsuit alleges that Jones was negligent in driving too fast and failing to yield to a pedestrian. It also contends that the bus company allowed an unqualified driver to operate the bus, failed to provide adequate training and failed to maintain the bus in good working order.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports that Blasi is seeking undisclosed actual and punitive damages.
