More hopefuls file for Jefferson City office

Steinman files on last day, creating three-way race for mayor

On the final day of filing on Tuesday, Leonard Steinman added his name to the list of candidates running for the office of Jefferson City mayor.

With Steinman’s entry into the mayor’s race along with current 4th Ward City Councilman Eric Struemph and former mayor George Hartsfield, there will have to be a primary election in February.

Another race that had an additional candidate file Tuesday was in the 3rd Ward, where Ken Hussey filed to challenge incumbent Councilman Bryan Pope.

Up until Tuesday, it appeared Ralph Bray would be the only candidate to fill Ron Medin’s vacant seat in the 5th Ward. But, early Tuesday afternoon, Scott Stacey decided to challenge him.

Go Leonard Steiman! Anybody willing to be out picking up trash on MO Blvd in the rain deserves a vote.

Is Mr. Steinman the man who we often see at the podium during the "Presentations from the Gallery" of the council meetings? If so, he could surprise all of us with a victory. Probably not the most eloquent speaker, he does bring some worthy and neglected issues to our attention.

I respect the man for having the guts to go full steam ahead into a sometimes hostile environment.

Thank you.
