Engineering firm wants larger NW Missouri hog farm

SAVANNAH, Mo. (AP) - A Springfield engineering company has applied to create a large hog farm in northwest Missouri.

Great River Engineering Corp. recently filed an application with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to expand a hog farm about two miles northeast of Savannah owned by Joe Knorr to 10,000 hogs.

Andrew County commissioners decided to leave the decision up to the state because of legal problems involved with passing an ordinance stricter than state statutes.

Andrew County commissioner Greg Wall says the state review process will take a minimum of 60 days.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports Knorr says that the new operation will be a state-of-the art pig farm that won't have a negative impact on Savannah or the county.
