Amtrak expects busy day
Jefferson City station is third busiest stop in state
Wednesday, November 24, 2010
Just like the airlines, today will be the busiest day of the year for Amtrak.
Rod Massman, rail administrator for MoDOT, said the Jefferson City station is consistently the third busiest stop for people getting on and off Amtrak on their Missouri run. St. Louis is No. 1; Kirkwood is No. 2.
“The station renovations made over the summer have increased the size of waiting room, and we’ve got a very active group of volunteers that help to make the experience of riding the train better,” Massman said. “Without them, you have no one there to answer questions about what’s going on with the train. They are invaluable to Amtrak and the station.
For Amtrak’s fiscal year which ended in October, the Jefferson City station had 49,371 passengers come through, compared with 48,114 in 2009.
