Sobriety checkpoints planned in Cole County

The Cole County Sheriff's Department will be doing extra DWI enforcement this month.

The sheriff's department was awarded $26,250 in traffic grants for 2010-2011. That's a 37 percent funding increase from 2009-10.

Five sobriety checkpoints will be done with this money along with hazardous moving violations enforcement.

So far in 2010, there have been three alcohol-related deaths.

According to the sheriff's department, the most dangerous road in Cole County is U.S. 54 south of Jefferson City, and deputies plan to target that area with more enforcement efforts.
