UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Mike Santorelli scored two of Florida's four goals in a 7:54 span of the second period and the Panthers sent the New York Islanders to their 12th straight loss with a 4-1 victory on Saturday night.
The Islanders have gone 0-11-1 in their past 12 games, scoring only 11 goals in the last 10. Even a coaching change hasn't helped as New York has dropped two straight at home since AHL coach Jack Capuano was promoted on an interim basis to replace the fired Scott Gordon.
Matt Moulson scored the only goal for the Islanders (4-12-3), who have an NHL-worst 11 points.
Marty Reasoner and Stephen Weiss also scored for the Panthers. Tomas Vokoun made 39 saves.
For only the second time during their skid, the Islanders scored first.
Canadiens 2, Maple Leafs 0
MONTREAL (AP) - Carey Price made 30 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and Jeff Halpern and Michael Cammalleri scored, leading Montreal over Toronto.
Price recorded his eighth NHL shutout and third in six games as Montreal bounced back from a 3-0 loss to Nashville on Thursday.
The 23-year-old Price helped the Canadiens win for the fifth time in six games. Price began and ended Montreal's previous four-game winning streak with shutouts.
Toronto's Jonas Gustavsson stopped 36 shots in his second straight start in place of injured Jean-Sebastien Giguere.
A moment of silence was observed before the game for former NHL coach Pat Burns, who died Friday. Burns, who coached both the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs, was commemorated in a video tribute on the scoreboard.
Predators 2, Hurricanes 1, SO
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Martin Erat and Cal O'Reilly scored in the shootout to push Nashville past Carolina.
After O'Reilly matched Carolina's Jeff Skinner in the first round, each team failed on its second opportunity. Patrick O'Sullivan then missed for the Hurricanes, setting up Erat's winner.
It was the second shootout loss for Carolina in two nights after a 5-4 setback at Pittsburgh on Friday.
Carolina scored first on Joni Pitkanen's goal 9:22 into the game. Jerred Smithson tied it for Nashville 3:53 into the second.
Pekka Rinne made 21 saves for Nashville. Carolina's Cam Ward countered with a 26-save effort.
Lightning 2, Sabres 1
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Mike Smith made 29 saves to lift Tampa Bay over Buffalo.
Smith, in his first start since Nov. 12, helped the Lightning (11-7-2) to their third straight victory, tying a season high. He turned aside all 12 shots he faced in the third period.
Teddy Purcell and Adam Hall scored for Tampa Bay, which defeated Philadelphia 8-7 on Thursday night in the highest scoring game in the NHL in almost three years.
Thomas Vanek scored for the Sabres (8-11-3), who were without starting goalie Ryan Miller. Miller was scratched late because of an undisclosed lower body injury. He missed five straight games earlier this month with hip soreness. Patrick Lalime made 20 saves in his first start since Nov. 5.
Tampa Bay center Steven Stamkos, who entered as the NHL leader in both goals and points, was held off the scoresheet for the third time this season.
Kings 4, Bruins 3, SO
BOSTON (AP) - Michal Handzus scored in the sixth round of the shootout and Los Angeles' Jonathan Quick made 38 saves through overtime to beat Tim Thomas and Boston.
Quick (11-2), who along with Thomas won a silver medal with the U.S. team at this year's Vancouver Olympics, helped the Kings snap a season-high, three-game losing streak.
Thomas (10-2) made 23 saves before the shootout, but the Bruins' three-game winning streak was broken.
Handzus, who also scored in regulation, beat Thomas with a wrist shot on the stick side. Jarett Stoll had his 100th career goal for the Kings, and Brad Richardson also scored.
Patrice Bergeron's power-play goal for Boston with 6:16 to play sent the game to overtime. It was the fourth straight game between the teams that needed extra time. Blake Wheeler and Gregory Campbell added goals for the Bruins in the second period.
Flyers 5, Capitals 4, SO
WASHINGTON (AP) - Danny Briere scored the only goal in the shootout, Brian Boucher stopped all three Washington attempts and Philadelphia beat the Capitals.
Boucher blocked Nicklas Backstrom's drive, gloved Alex Ovechkin's shot and slid as Alexander Semin's try glanced off the left post. Briere put the puck between Michal Neuvirth's pads.
Philadelphia went ahead 4-3 with 6:07 remaining on Andreas Nodl's goal from between the circles, but Eric Fehr scored on a one-timer from the right circle on a power play with 38.8 seconds left in regulation.
Claude Giroux, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter also scored for the Flyers, who handed the Capitals their second home loss in 12 games in a duel between the two top teams in the Eastern Conference.
Marcus Johansson, Nicklas Backstrom and Jason Chimera had the other goals for Washington, which lost a second straight game for the second time this season.
Rangers 5, Wild 2
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Marian Gaborik marked his first game as an opposing player in Minnesota with an assist during a three-goal second period for the New York Rangers, and Martin Biron made 26 saves in a win over the Wild.
Over the last 12 minutes of that lopsided middle frame, Artem Anisimov, Michael Del Zotto and Alex Frolov scored for the Rangers and the Wild went without a shot.
Gaborik, the Wild's first draft pick and the 10-year-old franchise's most productive and prolific player despite persistent injuries, got the second assist on Frolov's wraparound with 1 minute left in the second.
Brandon Dubinsky and Ruslan Fedotenko tacked on goals for the Rangers in the third period, minimizing the impact of scores for the Wild by Matt Cullen and Martin Havlat.
Blues 3, Devils 2
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Brad Winchester scored the winning goal 5:15 in the third period and Jaroslav Halak stopped 35 shots to lift St. Louis past slumping New Jersey.
Alex Pietrangelo and Eric Brewer also scored and Matt D'Agostini had two assists for the Blues, who won their 12th in a row over an Eastern Conference opponent - including 7-0 this season.
David Clarkson and Mattias Tedenby scored for the Devils, who dropped their third in a row. New Jersey (5-13-2) is only one point above the New York Islanders, who are last in the East. Mike McKenna made 24 saves in place of injured No. 1 goalie Martin Brodeur.
Avalanche 4, Stars 3, SO
DALLAS (AP) - Kevin Porter scored in the fifth round of the shootout, and Colorado recovered after wasting a three-goal lead to beat Dallas.
Chris Stewart had a goal in the second round for Colorado, but Dallas' Mike Ribeiro countered in the third.
Milan Hejduk had two power-play goals, and David Jones scored at even strength for Colorado.
Peter Budaj made 26 saves for the Avalanche, 5-1 in their last six against the Stars.
James Neal's power-play goal that banked in off the skate of defenseman Ryan Wilson made it 3-all at 10:02 of the third.
Adam Burish and Brenden Morrow scored 23 seconds apart in the second period to get Dallas' rally started. Kari Lehtonen stopped 23 shots for the Stars, whose five-game, home-winning steak ended.
