Count Park Road fire station to get ambulance

The second busiest area for the Cole County Ambulance service to answer calls from is the west/southwest part of the county.

With that in mind, county officials plan to move one of their ambulances from the main base on Southridge Drive out to the Cole County Fire Protection District Station on County Park Road, starting Jan. 1.

Cole County Ambulance Director Mike Shirts said he thinks the move would allow ambulances to respond within eight minutes, a goal discussed by a citizen's advisory committee.

Shirts said this ambulance will be staffed by two personnel on a twelve hour schedule from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Other ambulances will still be located at the main base on Southridge, Brazito, Apache Flats and at Jefferson City Fire Station 2 on East McCarty Street.

There are a total of 10 ambulances in the fleet-eight in service and two in reserve.
