CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Massey Energy Co.'s chief executive will address investors amid swirling rumors that the troubled Virginia-based coal company is a takeover target.
Don Blankenship is scheduled to speak Wednesday at the Dahlman Rose Global Metals, Mining & Materials Conference in New York. Massey says the speech will be broadcast over the Internet.
Massey has reported mounting losses since a deadly April explosion in West Virginia. It's now widely considered a takeover target for rivals such as Alpha Natural Resources and steel industry giant ArcelorMittal SA.
The April 5 blast at Massey's Upper Big Branch mine killed 29 miners and is the subject of criminal and civil investigations.
Massey operates dozens of mines in West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia.
