Jefferson City CVB hopes to increase MSP tours

Bureau continuing to focus on former prison

This past season, which ran from March to October, more than 11,000 people took a tour of the Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City, which is a 275 percent increase over last year’s numbers.

The Jefferson City Council has just approved the budget for the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), but Director Steve Picker already has big plans for the money.

At Monday evening’s City Council meeting, the council approved a $651,000 budget for 2011 for Picker and his colleagues, which is down about $5,000 from last year.
