OLIVETTE, Mo. (AP) - Authorities have identified a woman killed when she drove in to the path of a train in suburban St. Louis.
Investigators say 76-year-old Jacqueline Lederer died Monday in the accident near Olivette.
Police say Lederer apparently drove onto the tracks while lights warning of the approaching train were flashing. That's when the train consisting of seven tanker-style cars and an engine was backing up when it hit the vehicle, pushing the car about 300 feet.
Jordan Buck, general manager for Central Midland Railway, says the train was pushing cars between two rail yards and heading 17 mph when the accident happened.
The crossing does not have crossing gates.
