Moark announces plans to expand

NEOSHO, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri egg-production plant has announced plans to expand.

The Joplin Globe reports that Newton County residents who live near Moark's current plant recently received letters from Moark that said the company plans to expand current egg-laying operations by 2.2 million chickens.

The company says it also intends to expand its site in Hathaway, which will house 1.2 million laying hens. And it will add to its Timberview site.

Newton County residents who led a fight to stop Moark from expanding several years ago say they won't fight the company's latest plans. They also say they won't try to stop Moark from getting new state construction and operating permits.
