Linn, Mo. – Linn State Technical College will host the grand opening of the Haas Technical Education Center (HTEC) Showroom on Friday, November 19.
The event will include an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony in Linn State’s Machine Tool Technology program from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Other activities include machining demonstrations, campus tours and an opportunity to visit with Machine Tool Technology instructors and Haas representatives.
The new center is the result of a partnership between Linn State and Haas Automation, an industry leader in CNC machinery manufacturing. The center at Linn State is one of 72 educational institutions designated as a HTEC Showroom.
The HTEC allows Linn State machine tool technology students the opportunity to learn on state-of-the-art equipment being used in the workplace.
“Partnering with Haas Automation is making the machine tool program at Linn State more effective in preparing students and more appealing to prospective students,” said Dr. Donald Claycomb, LSTC President.
The HTEC also serves as a Haas showroom, in which Haas can demonstrate its latest technology to prospective customers. Haas has entrusted equipment with an estimated value of $380,000 to Linn State including two turning centers, two CNC vertical mills, a tool-room mill and a trunnion. In addition to the entrusted equipment, Linn State has another $410,000 invested in Haas Automation CNC equipment that includes two control simulators, nine vertical machining centers, two CNC tool-room lathes and three CNC turning centers.
The mission of the HTEC network is to promote and advance manufacturing and productivity through excellence in manufacturing education. As of April, 2010, the HTEC network in the USA and Canada includes 986 educational institutions made up of 154 high schools, 187 vocational schools and career centers, 407 community colleges and 238 colleges and universities.
Linn State offers an associate of applied science degree in machine tool technology. For more information about the program, contact the Office of Admissions at 800-743-8324.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain skills for very lucrative jobs.
Now we just need to get Jefferson City council off their rears to start attracting some high-tech high wage jobs to Jefferson City. This town will never build a decent standard of living on restaurants, motels, tourism, or pay-day loan shops. They need to attract some major employers like manufacturing, banking services, insurance services, biomedical industry, Information Technology, etc.

It just gripes me that all they can think of when talking about for economic development around here are things like bars, restaurants, walking or biking trails, small retail shops, or museums. What we really need are new high-tech, high-wage JOBS! This other stuff will come after we get the JOBS. We also need a better school system and Job skills training for adults. Then maybe we could attract some better jobs to our town. Forget the riverfront, riverwalk, conference center, motel, prison redevelopment. Without jobs we will not grow.
