Ex-liquor control agent guilty of bribery

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A former liquor control agent in St. Louis has pleaded guilty to a federal bribery charge.

Federal prosecutors say 42-year-old James Allen Morgan pleaded guilty on Monday. Morgan admitted soliciting money in exchange for helping a prospective bar owner obtain a liquor license.

Morgan could face up to 10 years in prison at sentencing on Feb. 2.

Morgan met with the applicant last year and suggested that the applicant hire him to manage the new bar and give him a signing bonus.

In return, Morgan promised he could guarantee a liquor license. The U.S. Attorney’s office says that when the liquor license was granted in December, Morgan agreed to accept $1,000 in cash from the applicant as a reward.
