Winter driving safety program on tap

St. Mary's Health Center Foundation is sponsoring an AARP winter driving safety program from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday in Jefferson City at 1001 Southwest Blvd.

The program is a classroom refresher course designed to help drivers improve their skills and prevent crashes. It is presented through a combination of group discussion and videotape. There are no written or driving tests given.

Topics covered include: changes that occur in vision, hearing and reaction time as one ages and useful driving safety tips to adjust to these changes; safe driving strategies on how to drive safely with other road users; how to identify today's challenges of interstate, city and rural driving; education on the use of safety features; and new technologies in vehicles.

Several major auto insurance carriers offer premium discounts after completing the course and receiving the completion certificate. Cost for AARP members is $12 and $14 for non-members.
