DETROIT (AP) - Jiri Hudler scored his first NHL goal in more than 19 months, helping the Detroit Red Wings beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 Saturday night.
Hudler, who returned to the Red Wings after spending last season in Russia, netted his first goal since April 5, 2009, and gave Detroit a 2-0 lead. Todd Bertuzzi and Danny Cleary also scored for the Red Wings, who have won nine of 11.
Jimmy Howard stopped 21 shots for Detroit, allowing only John-Michael Liles' third-period goal when Colorado had a two-man advantage. Howard is 22-1-3 in his last 26 regular-season starts, dating to last season.
Senators 2, Bruins 0
BOSTON (AP) - Brian Elliott stopped 31 shots for his first shutout this season, and Ottawa beat Boston to hand Tim Thomas his first loss.
Erik Karlsson and Daniel Alfredsson scored for the Senators, who won for the seventh time in nine games and won their third straight game in Boston.
Thomas had been 8-0 this season, earning the win in each of Boston's victories. The Bruins were shut out for the first time and have lost four of five since opening the season with seven wins in nine games.
Thomas stopped 31 shots.
It was Elliott's seventh career shutout.
Sabres 3, Capitals 2, OT
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Thomas Vanek scored his second goal of the game 4:00 into overtime, and Buffalo earned its first home win of the season with a victory against Washington.
Steve Montador also scored, and Ryan Miller stopped 23 shots in his first game after missing six because of a hip injury. Jordan Leopold added three assists for Buffalo, the NHL's final team to win at home. The Sabres are 1-6-1 there.
Nicklas Backstrom and Karl Alzner scored for the Capitals, who had a six-game winning streak snapped.
Kings 5, Islanders 1
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Anze Kopitar had two goals and an assist, Dustin Brown scored on a penalty shot and Los Angeles handed New York its 10th straight loss.
Justin Williams scored for the sixth time in seven games, defenseman Drew Doughty got his first goal of the season and Jonathan Quick made 18 saves for the Kings, who set a franchise record by opening 8-0 at home.
The victory concluded the second 5-0 homestand in club history. The other was in November 1990.
Los Angeles hasn't lost to the Islanders in regulation since Feb. 15, 2003, at Staples Center.

Canucks 5, Maple Leafs 3
TORONTO (AP) - Ryan Kesler scored twice and Mason Raymond snapped a tie with 6:24 left, sending Vancouver past struggling Toronto.
Raymond beat goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere through the legs from the top of the circle, stretching Toronto's losing streak to eight (0-6-2).
Vancouver improved to 5-0-1 against Eastern Conference opponents with its second consecutive win overall.
Daniel Sedin and Dan Hamhuis also scored for Vancouver.
Fredrik Sjostrom, Phil Kessel and Mikhail Grabovski had goals for the Maple Leafs, who have one victory in 12 games.
Canadiens 7, Hurricanes 2
MONTREAL (AP) - Tomas Plekanec had a goal and three assists to lead Montreal to a win against Carolina.
Brian Gionta and Michael Cammalleri each had a goal and an assist, and Jaroslav Spacek had two points for Montreal, including an assist on Maxim Lapierre's goal 15:34 into the second period.
Spacek got his second assist when Benoit Pouliot made it a three-goal lead with a power-play tally.
Carey Price made 27 saves, and Andrei Kostitsyn and Mathieu Darche also scored for Montreal, which won its third straight.
Anton Babchuk and Tom Kostopoulos scored goals 2:13 apart midway through the second period to draw the Hurricanes even at 2. Eric Staal and Jussi Jokinen assisted on both goals.
Cam Ward stopped 18 of 22 shots. Justin Peters made eight saves in relief.
Flyers 5, Panthers 2
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Mike Richards and Claude Giroux scored two goals apiece and rookie Sergei Bobrovsky made 34 saves in surging Philadelphia's victory over Florida.
Scott Hartnell also scored for the Atlantic Division leading Flyers, who are 8-0-1 in their last nine games and have scored 13 goals in their previous two.
Cory Stillman and Mike Santorelli scored for Florida.
Before the game, the Flyers agreed to a long-term contract extension with center Jeff Carter, a deal widely reported to be for 11 years and $58 million.
Penguins 4, Thrashers 2
ATLANTA (AP) - Evgeni Malkin scored three times, Sidney Crosby added a goal and two assists, and Pittsburgh beat Atlanta.
Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury won his second consecutive start, making 34 saves to improve to 3-6.
Malkin and Crosby added to their career dominance of Atlanta. Crosby has 28 points, including eight goals, in 19 games against the Thrashers. Malkin has 27 points, including nine goals, in 17 games.
The Penguins improved to 30-9-2 against Atlanta, which led 1-0 on defenseman Brent Sopel's first of the season.
Niclas Bergfors' fifth cut the deficit to 3-2 for the Thrashers, who have one victory in five games.
Atlanta goalie Ondrej Pavelec made 24 saves and dropped to 0-5 against the Penguins.
Coyotes 5, Blues 3
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Ray Whitney scored three goals and matched his career high with five points, leading Phoenix over St. Louis.
Whitney, Martin Hanzal and Radim Vrbata each scored on the power play, and the Coyotes stretched their winning streak to three games. Vrbata had his first two-point game since the season opener against Boston.
Whitney's final goal came into an empty net with 1:48 remaining.
The announced attendance was 9,412, the fifth crowd under 10,000 in eight Coyotes home games this season.
The Blues rank second in the NHL in fewest goals allowed, but they have yielded 15 in three games.
Predators 4, Blackhawks 3, SO
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Cal O'Reilly scored the only goal in a shootout to give Nashville a win against slumping Chicago.
Nashville won its second consecutive game, both after regulation time. Before Thursday night's shootout victory in St. Louis, the Predators had lost five straight.
Chicago has dropped three in a row.
In the shootout, O'Reilly beat Marty Turco with a wrist shot on Nashville's first attempt.
All three Predators goals in regulation came from defensemen: Shane O'Brien, Shea Weber and Cody Franson.
Jack Skille scored twice for Chicago, and Viktor Stalberg had the other Blackhawks' goal.
Sharks 4, Flames 3
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Joe Pavelski scored for the first time in nine games, Joe Thornton had his first point in four games and San Jose held on to beat Calgary.
Ryane Clowe and Logan Couture also scored for the Sharks, who have won three of four. Couture had a season-high three points, adding a pair of assists.
Jay Bouwmeester, Mark Giordano and Jarome Iginla scored for the Flames, who have lost six of seven.
Antti Niemi stopped 28 shots for his second win in six decisions. Ex-Shark Miikka Kiprusoff took the loss despite 31 saves.
