WARRENSBURG, Mo. (AP) - University of Central Missouri students and faculty showed support for gays and lesbians during a rally spurred by an act of anti-gay vandalism.
Before the homecoming parade on Oct. 23, vandals painted anti-gay slurs on a float sponsored by Queers & Allies, a campus advocacy group, and the Association of Black Collegians, the governing council for black students. All the vandalism was directed at the gay group.
The groups decided to cover up most of the vandalism and participated in the parade.
Speakers at Wednesday's rally told the crowd at the rally that the university wants to provide a safe environment for everyone.
University president Charles Ambrose says he wants his administration to review the university's outreach to under-represented members of the university community.
The Sedalia Democrat reports that Warrensburg police have investigated but have made no arrests.
