With the court system taking the day off before New Year's, the Cole County Commission has decided all county offices will also close that day.
On Wednesday, commissioners decided to take Dec. 31 as their New Year's holiday instead of Jan. 3, which would have meant having to leave some staff in place since the courts are scheduled to be open Jan. 3.
The county collector's office will remain open on the 31st for those filing their taxes at the last minute. Employees in that office will be able to take time off at a later date.
