Palin calls Obama ‘most pro-abortion president’

DALLAS (AP) — Sarah Palin attacked President Barack Obama on Wednesday for his support of abortion rights and for the federal health care overhaul as the former Alaska governor appeared in Texas with another tea party favorte, Gov. Rick Perry.

Palin described Obama as “the most pro-abortion president to occupy the White House” at the Dallas event, which was sponsored by a nonprofit organization that promotes an anti-abortion message. The 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee also said the federal health care law is the “mother of all unfunded mandates” and means federal funding will go toward abortions.

The law walled off federal funds from being used for the procedure, and an executive order signed by Obama just before it passed reaffirmed existing prohibitions on government-financed abortion, but anti-abortion activists argue that neither would actually prevent tax money from being used.

The law is expected to expand coverage to 32 million Americans who now are uninsured. It asks states to build online insurance exchanges, when most U.S. residents will be required to carry health insurance. It also greatly expands the Medicaid program for the poor.

A crowd of about 800 people filled about half the seats at a one-time vaudeville house to hear Palin and brief remarks from Perry, who was re-elected to a third full four-year term last week. Both have courted tea party support and some attending the event spoke in passing of whether the two could appear on a presidential ticket together, although the issue wasn’t front and center.

“It leads to speculation, but that’s what politics is all about,” said Jeff Turner, a Dallas County Republican precinct chairman.

Palin opened her talk with anecdotes about her family. At one point, she noted she has told many of the same stories before.

“I need to run for office just so I have more material to share in my speeches,” she said to applause.

Palin praised Perry and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, who also appeared at the event, for their public opposition to the federal health care law.

“Good for them, because we have to fight back against this federal power grab,” Palin said.

Palin and Perry appeared together in April at another event sponsored by the same Austin-based group, Heroic Media, but their careers have become more entwined since last week’s midterm elections.

Perry has gained a higher national profile as he has promoted his recently released book, “Fed Up!: Our Fight to Save America from Washington.”

Mark Yarbrough, executive director of the Denton County Republican Party, said he was happy to see two of the GOP’s current luminaries share the same stage. “Just the thought of what can be done — the two of them together — is interesting to me,” he said.

Ann Quest of Dallas, who identified herself as a tea party supporter, said she would see what the future holds for the pair.

“It’s been just a week since the elections,” she said.

Those attending Wednesday’s event paid for tickets of between $50 and $100 or sponsorships between $500 and 25,000.

Translation: Look at me!! Look at me!! I'm relevant!! Really, I am!!!

TheRickster 2 years, 6 months ago

She is as relevant as an elephant plop on the road! All wind with not a real moral thread of fiber in any part of her body. Give anybody a big stick and they can stir the pot. If any of you really want her to be a part of running ANY PART of this country,,you have no brains, period. Have any of you heard any ideas from her? Didn't think so. She has no idea how or what to do with this country besides make waves and cause split in all directions.

I hope it's not Palin 2012, or we will likely end up with Obama again.

couldnt have put it better myself livefree

0

TheRickster 2 years, 6 months ago

livefree,,You are joking, right? Where are her ideas? She is quick with smart remarks about "pitbulls, bears and cubs, but never says a darn word of what needs to be done. She will never be president. How do you figure she can get more done out of office? You mean she can say whatever she wants and cause turmoil. You find any real ideas she has laid out for the USA and I will shut up. She is all willing to throw anybody under the bus. I believe some of you are so blind you would elect a dog for president, if it would just do what you want. Maybe a pitbull. Don't start crying when the dog bites you!!

0

TEDDY 2 years, 6 months ago

Rickster you seem pretty fired up about this....is it because she is a strong, independent, confident WOMAN?? She may not have laid out any "real ideas" but she is a real person. Maybe its time for a change.

TheRickster 2 years, 6 months ago

Confident? Are you joking? You Teaparty kooks are still wishing!

What gets me is that Palin can QUIT half way through her term and it was a "good move" but if Obama would have done that he would have been a coward or a quitter or something worse, Palin is a joke and to be honest she is making a joke out of her political party just watch her so called "reality" tv show, what a joke. One the promo's for her new show it says that she would rather be in Alaska then in a stuffy office well that is good because she can just stay in Alaska and continue to embarrass them instead of the entire country! She is an idot that can't even finish the job she had so why on earth would anyone want her as president if she couldn't even finish out her term as Gov????

0

jeffcitygirl 2 years, 6 months ago

It wasn't a "job" - it was an honor bestowed upon her from the trust and support of the voters and she just walked away from her RESPONSIBLIBITY to the citizens. When you are a public servant your family comes second. Can a solider just quit b/c it's the best move for his family? No. Neither should leaders.

0

TEDDY 2 years, 6 months ago

Quit?? She made a choice that was best for her family and her state. Its amazing that you only see one side. Typical...you would rather her stay in her elected position knowing that she may possibly not be able to perform her duties 100%. She knew what she had to do for family and state...the diffrence is she knew when the time had come...maybe Obama could learn a lesson from her

0

newone 2 years, 6 months ago

I don't hate her, I just don't want her to be our president because she couldn't even finish out her term as Gov, what happens if (and that is a big if) she becomes president and the heat starts coming down on her..is she going to quit? You say it was best for her family well if she was worried about her family while being a Gov don't you think it would be even worse if she were president? She doesn't have the back bone to be a president and she showed that when she quit her job as Gov..and creating money doing reality tv (bad reality tv at that) doesn't give her much credit in my book, sorry!

Look at the heat that is on the president right now, Palin could never take it.

0

newone 2 years, 6 months ago

oh but I thought she quit because of her family? and Lord help us if we had more people who think like her!

0

TheRickster 2 years, 6 months ago

Graceful,,you must be blinded by the fact she is a woman. Plus, I don't see alot of Palin supporters. She is only about cash in her pocket and stirring the pot.You can't cut spending and still pay for services that are needed. TALK is cheap and she has plenty of jibberish. I can yell "fire" inside a movie theater and get a huge response but at what cost? I still ask,,what are her ideas? She is all about her, her, her!!! How is she taking care of her family while traveling the country side living the high life? No substance,,no ideas,,no help for the general public. All the while she hasn't been running for any office so her finances are her BIG secret. Her platform is " Look at me,,look at me,, look at me!!!

0

TheRickster 2 years, 5 months ago

So what services are needed Ms. know-it-all? You pay either by taxes or some even pay with lives,,like the soldiers! Young and dumb is not an excuse to shut down the USA!

0

wcywing 2 years, 6 months ago

i have misgivings about Palin, however she is not an idiot, she infiltrated the GOP and makes millions out of it. she is good at marketing herself. do i want her to be president, no. she is like Hillary Clinton, people either love her or abhor her. no middle ground, like the posts here show.

0

jeffcitygirl 2 years, 6 months ago

I think you're right chickadee!! Scary to think what could happen with little miss winky flirty "youbetcha" calling the shots with world leaders...

0

asb 2 years, 5 months ago

She is attractive, but un-educated, slow responding, and ideologically neutered.

0

TheRickster 2 years, 6 months ago

Graceful,,you are the only one here! Backbone? Is that all you have? You admit you would vote for president that has NO IDEAS!! Palin is all powder and eyeshadow! Talk is cheap and she has the market cornered on that. It ain't going to happen so like the man said,,pick a different Queen!

0

gofish 2 years, 6 months ago

I'll have Hillary Clinton thank you very much. I'll bet the kool-aid drinking Obama-groupies wish they had done the same by now.

0

newone 2 years, 6 months ago

experience, really? SHE QUIT!!!

0

TheRickster 2 years, 6 months ago

She has no ideas and a "half a governor"? That is some experience girlie! So now that you have chosen to vote in a new crew to run the senate,,let's see what comes out of this. If you would truly think Palin would be a president any better than the worst then you have illusions of grandure. She is making money,,for herself! By the way how about Hilton, Kardashian, and some other nobodies that get attention for being in the public and good at nothing?

0

TheRickster 2 years, 5 months ago

Graceful,,,you like a few will hate anything. Blame all you want, that is your chosen path.

Wonder if Palin could get Joy Behar to be her running mate.

0

newone 2 years, 5 months ago

the only thing I fear from this woman is that she will get into office and end up quitting when it gets hard just like she did as Gov, sorry but I can not trust someone that could not even finish her job.

0

UNREAL 2 years, 5 months ago

If for nothing else, ya gotta luv the way that just the mention of her name drives those left wing nuts crazy, which is not really success on her part, because they dont usually have far to travel.

0

newone 2 years, 5 months ago

Keep telling yourself that graceful...she quit because she couldn't hack it period! She would rather be a reality tv star, a bad one at that.

0

newone 2 years, 5 months ago

no she didn't go into hiding because she wants the fame and the reality show proves it and she has lost a lot of credit with a lot of people because of it which I guess is the good thing because now people can really see who she is.

0

newone 2 years, 5 months ago

And I truly believe she was the reason why McCain did not win, she brought him down I know of a lot of people who would have voted for him, me included if Palin wasn't his running mate

0

asb 2 years, 5 months ago

Those who say Palin has no useful political ideas appear to be on the right track, she's a walking sound bite. She learned to walk and talk attractively as a beauty queen and to this day that's what she most resembles. If you need to know what the left fears about her, it's that she can be packaged and marketed so well with nothing but fluff and cliches. When famous athletes, actors, wrestlers and cuties get elected, you know they're not usually the ones doing the important work, so it's that much farther from our needs to their actions. If the GOP doesn't come up with a legitimate conservative business oriented leader, she'll steamroll the nomination. Then, if Obama were even half as evil and anit-American as I read here, she couldn't lose. Those on the left who want her to win in order to stop a GOP presidency better hope Obama clears up his message or the world will laugh itself silly with her "real American" self in the Whitehouse.

0

asb 2 years, 5 months ago

They're all packaged, they'd lose otherwise. Obama's message, while a might preachy,, was clear and well recieved. Empty suit? Considering you've credited him with a large role in destroying America I'd say that suit well packed, and his place in history as the President who finally brought insured health care to all Americans has been guarenteed, even if you buy the insurance co lies and find it evil. Press Malpractice? Fox, yes. Libal, slander, pandering to the lowest human base, fear-mongering, even treason, are all tools of the right wing media, good call.

0

asb 2 years, 5 months ago

Slow down, you're starting to twitch . . . Fox/Fair, NT's three dollar filter just won't give in on this one so I'll just have to call that an obvious and opposite paradox, and let you find the meaning.

I thought I would give Palin a chance so I watched this new show she has on tv and couldn't believe what I saw. This lady is the most ignorant, dumbest person next to Joe the Plumber I have ever seen. She is literally just plain stupid. If it wasn't for her husband she wouldn't have been able to remember her address. I'm not saying she is a bad person, she seemed nice enough, but she was just plain dumb. Anyone who would even consider that gal for public office must have failed the GED test 4 or 5 times.

0

wcywing 2 years, 5 months ago

but the people of Alaska voted for her TWICE! she might be the next GOP candidate for president. scary? yes.

0

HorseGlue4u 2 years, 5 months ago

Most of the people who disagree on anything Palin says are :men. Simply put, they don't want a woman leader. Period. One can misconstrue ANYTHING from words spoken. Tell me YOU haven't said something like that and your friends laughed at you in jest. But, politics brings it to a whole new level. You knuckle-draggers are required to climb to the top of the forest canopy, and see the light. Being a redneck only gets Missouri more liberal rants. Educate yourselves ,or step back from the keyboard -and go back to your tree.

0

TheRickster 2 years, 5 months ago

Read this article again Graceful and you Palin supporters and see the facts. They only got 800 folks in Texas. That ain't much of a crowd down in that cowboy state. She might as well start selling snake oil because that is all she will get. Why do you keep talking about the "left"? I see the biggest split is those that have insurance and some that don't. Those that have say I have mine you go find your own. The real villian in that is big medicine and hospitals. Go try to buy medicines with or without insurance. Some costs less that with insurance. That is because they have so many deals made the pay-offs outway the real costs of the medicine. Palin still has stated NO ideas for America, besides look at me,,I am pretty and can make a noise.
