Former Kansas doctor sentenced for painkiller sales

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A former eastern Kansas doctor will serve three years in prison for illegally distributing prescription drugs.

Sixty-seven-year-old Wayne W. Williamson of Olathe was sentenced Tuesday as part of a plea agreement that requires him to surrender his medical license.

Williamson, an osteopathic physician, pleaded guilty in July to health care fraud, illegally distributing prescription drugs and harassing a state investigator.

Prosecutors say Williamson made claims for services he didn't perform and submitted false claims to Medicare and Medicaid.

Williamson also pleaded guilty to writing prescriptions for people he knew did not need them. And he admitted sending threatening letters to an investigator with the Missouri State Board of the Healing Arts.
