Investigation faults KC’s Bannister complex
Tuesday, November 9, 2010
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A new report accuses a federal agency of providing misleading information about Kansas City’s Bannister Federal Complex, where workers have complained of health problems.
The inspector general’s investigation determined that current testing has not identified any significant health hazards present in the roughly 40 percent of the complex controlled by the General Service Administration.
But Monday’s report says the GSA cannot provide assurance that the complex has historically been a safe and healthy workplace because of record-keeping problems and other issues.
The GSA acts as the federal government’s real estate agent.
It responded to the inspector general’s report saying many steps have been taken to enhance environmental programs at the complex since January.
