Arrest in case of slain Calif. police officer

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Police in Southern California say they have arrested a man in connection with the fatal shooting of an officer.

Riverside police Chief Sergio Diaz tells the Riverside Press-Enterprise the man was arrested Tuesday night at a Target store in the city.

Diaz tells the newspaper that investigators “like this guy” as a suspect, “but there’s still a lot of work to do.”

Officer Ryan Bonaminio was shot and killed late Sunday night after chasing a suspect on foot into a park. Bonaminio had pulled the man over in a big-rig that had been reported stolen.

A call to the police department was not immediately returned.
