A church mission doesn't have to be halfway around the world. Sometimes, it's just a couple blocks down the road.

Volunteers at Concord Baptist Church took that short trek on Sunday to Kwik Car Lube & Tune, 3636 W. Truman Blvd., where they gave free oil changes and pre-winter tuneups. The event was aimed at helping single women, and about 45 were signed up.

"There are plenty of things churches can do locally," said Bill Reichard, an event organizer from Concord.
