2 freight trains collide, no injuries

PLATTE CITY, Mo. (AP) - Two freight trains have collided in northwest Missouri, but officials said no injuries have been reported.

The accident happened Sunday morning about 40 miles northwest of Kansas City when one BNSF freight train rear-ended another northbound train.

The Kansas City Star reports that the lead train had not pulled off onto a side track when it was struck by the engine of the trailing train. The engine of the rear train and five boxcars of the leading train derailed.

The accident occurred near Missouri 45 in Platte County south of the Buchanan County line.
