Cole County tax bills being mailed out

The 2010 real estate and personal property tax bills for Cole County will be mailed Friday, according to County Collector Larry Vincent.

In addition, all personal property tax bills will include the 2011 assessment form.

Your tax statement must be presented when making your payment.

State Statute 52.230 and 52.240 states: "A collector of revenue or other collection authority charged with the duty of tax or license collection may refuse to accept payment not accompanied by such statement."

"The failure of the taxpayer to receive the notice provided for in section 52.230 in no case relieves the taxpayer of any tax liability imposed by law," Vincent said. "You are urged to contact the collector's office if you haven't received your 2010 tax bill by Monday, Nov. 15, or the assessor's office if your assessment form was not included."

All tax payments must be postmarked or received no later than Dec. 31 and become delinquent on Jan. 1.

Vincent also reminds those paying real estate taxes that now is the perfect time to sign up for quarterly payments for 2011. To pay online or sign up for quarterly payments, go to the collector's website at colecountycollector.org.
