Police: Ex-alderwoman paid kids for stolen signs

ST. ANN, Mo. (AP) - A former suburban St. Louis alderwoman is accused of various misdemeanors after she allegedly hired her daughter's friends to steal campaign signs of a candidate she didn't support.

Police say Rae Krawzik of St. Ann caught teens trying to steal beer, toilet paper and eggs from her home. She allegedly offered them $1 for every sign they stole from state House candidate Eileen McGeoghegan.

McGeoghegan is a former St. Ann alderwoman who supported a candidate who defeated Krawzik in her bid for re-election earlier this year.

Police allege the teens took 50 signs, which Krawzik and her husband burned.

Krawzik does not have a listed home telephone number. It was not clear if she has retained an attorney.
