Missouri Southern offering retirement incentives

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Southern State University is hoping to pare its payroll by offering retirement incentives to more than four dozen faculty and staff.

The university announced the one-time offer Monday for 87 people who are now eligible for retirement. They have until Dec. 1 to decide whether to accept it.

Those who accept will receive either 40 percent of their current base salary or $1,000 for each completed year of service, whichever is greater, up to a maximum $20,000.

Missouri Southern president Bruce Speck says the university is making the offer as it confronts reductions in state funding.
