Callaway County authorities continue triple murder probe
Tuesday, November 2, 2010
Callaway County authorities have stopped searching for the vehicle they think Joshua Maylee used to drive between, and away from, the two Holts Summit area locations where three people were killed last week.
Sheriff Dennis Crane said Monday the silver Pontiac Bonneville owned by Maylee’s grandfather likely is in the Missouri River in Cooper County. He said it probably won’t be recovered due to safety concerns.
Maylee, 23, Holts Summit, was arrested last Thursday after coming to a residence off Missouri 179 in Cooper County, asking for help for injuries to his hand and foot.
Crane would not say if evidence collected so far includes the weapons that authorities believe Maylee used to kill Eugene “Bo” Pinet, 48, Jackie Lee Pinet, 57, and Jeffrey Werdehausen, 46.
Prosecutor Bob Sterner charged Maylee Friday with first-degree murder for each of those shootings, and with first-degree assault for shooting and wounding Gina Werdehausen, 41.
She had surgery and other medical care at University Hospital, Columbia, last week, but has been released.
The Pinets’ funerals were held Monday in Linn. Arrangements for Jeff Werdehausen’s funeral, at the Slater-Millard Chapel, Holts Summit, had not been completed as of late Monday afternoon.

--Sheriff Dennis Crane said Monday the silver Pontiac Bonneville owned by Maylee’s grandfather likely is in the Missouri River in Cooper County. He said it probably won’t be recovered due to safety concerns. Dennis Crane said 'likely' and 'probably'. Them's HIS words, not mine--
Well, I don't like hearing 'probably' and 'likely' from the sheriff of my county of residence. I want to hear facts, not assumptions. Anytime I call the Callaway Sheriff's department, that's the kind of junk that I hear all the time---'I think'...'I have always been told that blah blah blah'...'I can't'...'I don't know'...'It is probably so'...'It's very likely that...' Don't nobody want to hear junk like that from a so-called professional law enforcement agency. What I want to hear is FACTS. If the person that I'm speaking with doesn't know the answer to my questions, I would appreciate being referred to someone that DOES know when I ask to be referred, not be given a bunch of tripe talk and hemming and hawing about how not to help me and be given the runaround instead of correct information.
Unless there is a life threatening situation, I will NEVER call the Callaway County Sheriff's Department for anything. It is a grave mistake and a huge waste of time. Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble have more professionalism, intelligence and better crime solving skills.

When they have boats with cranes in St. Louis that can lift a sunken barge on the Mississippi river I think they can handle a sunken car fairly easy. Sounds like the Sherriff needs to explore resources before he throws in the towel so easily.

so by now the police would know for a fact where the car is wouldnt josh of told them? what does he have to lose by not? its all unreal to think someone would be looking at a small sentence and fine verses murder charges Id say the guy snapped prob in a stealing thing with the others they were gonna bail and leave this all on him we will never know the whole story Im sure callaway county KNOWS alot more then they are saying it will all come out in the end just sad that a 23 yr old gave up so much for this why not just brush it off to a BAD experience and move on now he wont see his lil boy grow up And the others who lost their life its sad.... see it boils down to this live life the right way work, pay bills and be honest stealing and all this other crap will get ya no where but IN TROUBLE and for what a quick buck not worth it there had to be some shady dealings going on and someone knew what i just say its sad and unreal i pray for all involved

When it comes to the end of the day, Holts Summit lost 3 people who by no means did not deserve to loose their lives. I rented from Jeff and he was a great landlord. I didn't have enough for deposit and he worked with me. If people would just take a moment and reflect on the good these people did and not the bad maybe....the world would be a better place. All of us know that we all haven't been perfect. I feel very sorry in a way for Josh and that he thought that was the only option he had...to down right murder someone. May God continue to hold these families close.
