St. Louis ministry center suffers copper thefts

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis ministry center is proving itself popular with copper thieves.

The nonprofit World Impact St. Louis says it was hit by copper pilferers three times last week, straining its resources.

Spokeswoman Adria Medlen says the ministry estimates the loss of copper pipes and wiring from rooftop air conditioners at more than $200,000.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says World Impact offers various services for the surrounding community, including youth outreach and employment programs.

Medlen says in one theft, the culprits cut a power line to the building's kitchen and dining area. She also says damage to the air conditioners puts summer programs at risk next year.
