Curls, Wood chosen for state Senate race

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City-area Democrats have chosen state Rep. Kiki Curls as their candidate for a vacant state Senate seat.

Curls will face Republican Nola Wood, an insurance agent who ran unsuccessfully in November for a state House seat.

A Feb. 22 special election is scheduled to determine a replacement for Democratic Sen. Yvonne Wilson. The 81-year-old Wilson recently retired with two years remaining in her Senate term.

Curls and Wood were selected as candidates by their local political party committees.
