Status pending: Not-for-profit groups face long waits for IRS approval

Financial possibilities await those who receive 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status through the Internal Revenue Service.

But what used to be a quick and simple application process has become years of waiting for some newly-formed organizations.

That's a factor in delaying the efforts of local not-for-profits -- including the Discover Jefferson City Foundation, the Friends of the Missouri State Museum, and the Old Town Revitalization Company.
