Monday's NHL Capsules

DENVER (AP) - Niklas Kronwall scored the game-winner with 1:18 remaining in overtime and Chris Osgood stopped a season-high 46 shots in the Detroit Red Wings' 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night to become the 10th goalie in NHL history to reach 400 wins.

Nicklas Lidstrom, Jiri Hudler and Johan Franzen also scored for the Red Wings, who have won three of their past four games.

Osgood was swarmed by teammates after reaching the milestone win. The 17-year veteran has 316 of his wins with the Red Wings.

Matt Duchene scored twice for Colorado and T.J. Galiardi added another. The Avs have dropped three straight games.

Kronwall scored the winner on a power play following a tripping call on Avs goalie Peter Budaj.

Rangers 7, Islanders 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Defenseman Matt Gilroy broke a long scoring drought with his first two-goal game in the NHL, and the Rangers recorded a season-high 52 shots to cool off the surging Islanders.

As the area dug out of a major blizzard that struck New York on Sunday and into the early hours of Monday, the Rangers handed the Islanders their first loss in four games and snapped their rivals' five-game point streak (4-0-1).

Gilroy gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead just 44 seconds in and then broke a 2-2 tie in the second against Islanders goalie Dwayne Roloson, who was chosen as Monday as the NHL's top star for last week. Gilroy, taking the place of scratched defenseman Michael Del Zotto, had gone 64 games without a goal - dating to Nov. 28, 2009. He has six goals in 91 career NHL games.

Bruins 3, Panthers 2, SO

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Blake Wheeler scored the only goal in the shootout to lead Boston over Florida.

Tim Thomas, who came in leading the NHL in goals-against average and save percentage, made 32 saves. He then stopped Mike Santorelli, Stephen Weiss and Evgeny Dadonov in the shootout.

David Krejci had both regulation goals for Boston. Michael Ryder had two assists.

David Booth and Mike Santorelli scored for the Panthers and Michael Frolik had two assists.

Scott Clemmensen, making his seventh start of the season, stopped 40 shots for Florida.

Boston won for the first time in four shootouts, while Florida dropped to 2-1.

Blue Jackets 4, Wild 3, SO

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Rick Nash scored in the shootout and had two assists to become Columbus' franchise leader to lift the Blue Jackets past Minnesota.

Steve Mason, who hadn't started since Dec. 16 after getting pulled in three of four outings, returned to the net and stopped 37 shots.

Derick Brassard, Fedor Tyutin and Andrew Murray also scored for Columbus, which scored twice in 41 seconds to take the lead in the third period. Kyle Wilson and Kristian Huselius also scored in the shootout.

Nash now has 206 assists. He is also the club leader in goals (244) and points (450).

Chuck Kobasew had a goal and assist, and Mikko Koivu and Cal Clutterbuck also scored for Minnesota, which has lost two in a row after a three-game winning streak.

Marek Zidlicky added two assists for the Wild, who finished 0 for 7 on the power play.

Kings 4, Sharks 0

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Trevor Lewis broke up a scoreless game early in the third period and Jonathan Quick made 24 saves for his fourth shutout this season, leading Los Angeles over San Jose.

Dustin Brown scored twice and former San Jose forward Marco Sturm also scored in the third as the Kings broke open a close game to snap a three-game losing streak to San Jose. Anze Kopitar had three assists.

The Sharks looked sluggish in their first game following a three-day Christmas break, taking more than 12 minutes to put a single shot on net and eventually having their season-long four-game winning streak snapped. They had few good chances all night, with perhaps the best coming on Patrick Marleau's short-handed breakaway that Quick stopped midway through the third.

Flames 5, Sabres 2

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Jarome Iginla and Olli Jokinen scored second-period goals to lead Calgary over Buffalo.

Calgary got going in the second period after falling behind 1-0 in a lackluster opening 20 minutes in which the teams combined for just 13 shots.

The Flames emerged from the first intermission skating much better and generating significantly more scoring chances, getting 14 shots on Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller and taking a 2-1 lead.

Iginla put the Flames into the lead at 16:13 on a pretty set up by Alex Tanguay, who spotted Iginla in the open behind Jochen Hecht and sent a perfect breakaway pass to the Flames captain, who snapped a shot between Miller's pads.

Calgary tied the game at 2:26 of the second period on Jokinen's eighth goal of the season.

Alex Kotalik, David Moss and Tom Kostopolous also scored for Calgary.

Drew Stafford and Patrick Kaleta scored for Buffalo.
