Committee set up to promote Jefferson City lodging tax increase
Tuesday, December 28, 2010
With a vote to increase the Jefferson City’s lodging tax by four cents less than a month away, one side of the issue is beginning to build up some steam.
A preliminary list of individuals on the Lodging Tax Promotion Committee has been released, and more than 15 residents have announced that they will help lead the charge for the tax increase.
Heading up the committee is Curtis Chick, who has been involved with the steering committee for the conference center that will be built with the money from the tax if it is passed.

No more tax increases for wealthy investors.

If this passes, the city council will be given a "green" light to proceed with the convention center. Folks, please vote against this.

Nah. Just because you can INCREASE the lodging tax, doesn't mean you have to INCREASE it. Just because you can tax visitors more, doesn't mean you have to tax visitors more. If this passes, look for hotels outside JC limits to be forcibly annexed.
Until JC refunds the temporary 1/8 cent ambulance property tax (approximately $800K) that they kept as a "Public Safety" tax two years ago, no new taxes or tax increases should be permitted.
If the city HAS to spend money, fix some of the streets (ie. Stadium by Helias) and existing sidewalks. Quit wasting it on studies and goofy projects.

If this passes, the city will have to use general tax dollars every year from now to eternity to support this money-losing business.
This turkey is so bad, it has no chance of passing despite the hundreds of thousands of our tax dollars that are going to be spent to lobby... er "communicate" this issue to the voters.
Kill this thing now, council before even spending a dime or our precious tax dollars on it. It will be voted down. Fix our roads and sidewalks instead.
VOTE NO!

I am not too worried about it. I don't stay in hotels or motels here. I'd say they got this idea from other places charging the same to visitors. I am not to worried. I don't know if we need a convention center. I'd like to see a indoor rec center for kids to use and keep them out of trouble for say 18 and under.

Always concerned when government taxes other people or groups. Only a matter of time before they get to the rest of us.

Why not support the new tax if it will bring Jefferson city a convention center. The new convention center will be the talk of the state once visitors get a whiff of the smell in down town coming from across the river, how much did we pay for that plant and study again?
