Dear Editor:
I would like to congratulate city staff for their work toward acquiring a federal grant. The City of Jefferson is one of five state capitals in the nation to be selected for the "Greening of America's Capitals" program.
Two of the goals of the program are to connect cities to their waterways and to create sustainable public spaces.
The word sustainable suggests to me ecologically sound. I question the wisdom of the concrete liner to much of Wear's Creek. The more we minimize pavement the more we re-charge aquifers and reduce flood-creating runoff. Hopefully our consultants will lead us in this direction.
