Jackson County seeks extension for Mohler evidence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says it needs 30 more days to finish processing evidence related to a massive Lafayette County child rape investigation.

A Clay County judge last week ordered Jackson County investigators to release evidence in the case of Burrell Mohler Sr., his four sons and his brother. The six are accused of molesting young family members more than two decades ago.

The six men have pleaded not guilty to charges that they raped the children on a farm near Bates City in Lafayette County in the 1980s.

Jackson County officials say they need more time to process and copy journals and examine videos that have been seized as evidence.

The trial for Burrell Mohler Sr. had been scheduled to begin in February, but has been pushed back to October.
