Former Jefferson City standout Williams signs with UNC

Sylvester Williams is headed to Chapel Hill.

The former Jefferson City Jay recently signed a letter of intent to play football for the University of North Carolina.

Williams, a 6-foot-3, 320-pound defensive tackle, played for two years at Coffeyville Junior College in Kansas before being recruited by the University of North Carolina.

The sophomore began playing football in his senior year at Jefferson City, where he racked up 21 tackles and one sack.

Williams has put together a stellar year at Coffeyville after walking on in 2009. He's recorded 52 tackles, including 12.5 for loss and two sacks, two pass break-ups, a forced fumble and five blocked kicks.

Williams earned first-teall all-conference and first-team all-region honors this season. He also received honorable-mention recognition on the NJCAA All-America team.
