Enveloped in shoddy products

Dear Editor:

Several weeks ago I had the occasion to watch a news broadcast over one of the networks which showed the problem of thinner envelopes being used and sent through the mail. Now the subject has just arisen here in our local Post Office.

For what it's worth, this is a problem I encountered with local merchants before this subject appeared, and I wondered what in the world was happening. Companies making money but using cheaper envelopes to mail their statements/invoices to their customers.

Now that the matter has jumped up here, this is my response to the subject. Do merchants think their customers are so dumb they wouldn't notice the texture change in envelopes? Well, I am unable to figure out their thinking.

Paper comes from trees that are cut down and processed if I am correct in my assumption. So why cut down more trees to build more houses, which by the way more newly-built homes still stand idle today and not be able to use better paper products for such as sending out mail.

This same situation applies to paper products for the home, such as paper toweling and bathroom products. I can't believe how cheaply made these items have become.

And talking about cheap, what about the clothing that is coming to us from foreign countries. It is not well made at all. I used to like a clothing brand made in the U.S., but now buttons no longer appear sewn on very good.

And the same thing is happening with some of the food I buy. An example: I bought a coconut one day and, upon cracking it open, I discovered the taste of the inner part could not be eaten and the milk which is normally sweet tasted terrible. I pitched the whole mess.

I have not seen some of the items in this article mentioned in the letters section so thinking I would grab the bull by the horns and list the frustrations being experienced by other readers of the newspaper and expose a few of the problems.

What is happening to this country? I am truly concerned for the American people and for future generations to come and if there will be a future for them.
