Petition seeks to repeal Fulton smoking ban
Tuesday, December 21, 2010
It’s been less than a month since Fulton’s smoking ban took effect, and some residents are looking for ways to repeal the controversial new law.
Deby Fitzpatrick, owner of B&N Accounting, in Fulton, is working with local businesses to get the nearly 800 signatures needed to repeal the encompassing ban.

This is not about smokers rights. Your petition stinks like your cigarette smoke. I can finally enjoy food and drink without the indoor stink of tobacco smoke. You have almost all of the world to smoke in and you want the rest. Give us non smokers a chance to get away from you and your smokers breath. Just step outside and blow to your hearts content then come back inside and breath clean air like we are doing. Some smokers are considerate, some are just friggin' rude like your petition is about. Your petition sucks!

Easy solution. Yes ban smoking in restaurants. Restaurants cater to all, elderly, children, those with chronic health condidtions, etc. However, why do bars have to be lumped in with restaurants? Especially the ones who do not serve food at all. How are they even related? Why do the two get connected in these laws? You say give us non smokers a chance to get away from you...well you get that chance in EVERY other type of establishment, stores, malls, offices, etc. Why not compromise a little? There are lots of non smoking bars and if the smoke bothers you enough for the few hours you are in one on a Saturday night then go to the non smoking bar. Compromise not control!

The world will be a better place when the smokers finally die off.

I honestly can't imagine what would prompt a person to make such a horrible, inconsiderate statement. You should be ashamed.

It will also be a better place without fools that make stupid remarks. I would guess you talk on your cell phone while driving or in public places.

No, but those people need to die off too. I am a strong proponent of Dawin. I wish he would work faster.

sorry to burst your bubble, but smokers won't die off. plus i don't think you will say "the world will be a better place when the smokers finally die off" in front of someones face, especially considering many people in the military smoke. as for the original vote, it was not a land slide. Darwin theory does not work well with humans, we are above the food chain, alter environments, etc.

Society would be better served if the "do-gooders" let business owners decide if they want to alllow or not allow smoking in their establishment. Perhaps the same can happen here.

that would make too much sense.

On a personal level, the smoking ban doesn't bother me. I smoke, on occasion, but I vastly prefer non-smoking restaurants and the only bar I've gone to in years was Paddy Malone's and while smoking and drinking tends to go hand-in-hand, I didn't mind stepping outside. However, that being said, I think a business owner should have the right to say what legal activities can go on in their businesses. Why do the business owner's have no rights in this matter?

This is where it's at for me too. I don't smoke but if I owned a business I wouldn't want to be forced to not allow smoking. Since there have been a million of these threads that's all I'll say :)

You can't see the difference between the posts? One attacks ambiguous persons' behavior; the other attacked a specific person. Opinions regarding behaviors are nothing like personal attacks, and personal attacks should not be tolerated.

Calling persons names should also not be tolerated, and this post should also be deleted.

Didn't the voters already vote? Or do the petitioners not approve of a democratic form of government. Somebody call Homeland Security!
