Missouri House creates panel to handle redistricting

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri House leaders have named the lawmakers who will take the chamber's first crack at redrawing the state's congressional districts.

The committee was created before lawmakers' annual session begins Jan. 5. Incoming Republican House Speaker Steven Tilley says he named the committee early so it could begin work immediately.

The 12-member panel will be led by Republican John Diehl (deel) of Town and Country.

The Census Bureau was to announce Tuesday whether Missouri's population continues to justify its nine seats in the U.S. House or merits only eight.
