Mo. House speaker urges colleagues to reject gifts

Missouri’s incoming House speaker says he’s urging colleagues to decline gifts from lobbyists.

Republican Steven Tilley, of Perrvyille, proposed legislation last year to bar lawmakers from accepting gifts and free meals from lobbyists. Tilley told reporters that this year he is urging Republican House members to reject freebies voluntarily.

Lawmakers last year approved new campaign finance and ethics but did not include a ban on accepting gifts.

Tilley says he used to accept gifts, but stopped doing so after his parents suggested his actions could look bad to someone who doesn’t know him. Tilley says he is urging other lawmakers to learn from his mistake.

How about giving them to the stateworkers so that they can have a little joy in their lives this Christmas?

I'm sure an all-expense paid trip to Hawaii, a case of Maker's Mark, that new BlackBerry or IPAD, or a box of expensive Cohiba Cuban cigars might help put a smile on a hard-working bureacrat's face Christmas morning. Heaven knows the politicians get plenty of this stuff, and when times are hard, they need to share the wealth with the less fortunate.

Oh look ! it's the spammers again. THEY'RE BACK ! ! ! Just in time for Christmas, too. Can't wait to shop there.

If the Jay and the legislature have there way, locals will be going down to the UP tracks to scavenge coal that fell off of passing trains to help keep warm this winter. Wine in the picture looks interesting. Surely these leaders don't imbibe. Ho Ho Ho.

I don't think alcohol or smoking is allowed in the state buildings.

It is the name of a mythical greek man named "Sisyphus" who was tasked to push a boulder up hill, just to have it roll back down... forever. It was a joke implying that keeping these spammers at bay is much like pushing a boulder up a hill.

Why can't the CAPTCHA thing use regular characters? Those goofy fonts are often hard to determine and requires several cycles to get on that is readable.

The spammers don't have any trouble reading the CAPTCHA characters or registering an account on this website.
